Virginia, according to the English original, The Commonwealth of Virginia (this is how it was named after Queen Elizabeth I, who was known as the queen who was virgin, “Virgin Queen”) is one of the 13 original states of the United States who revolted in 1775 – 1776 against the British domination.

Virginia is found in the area known as Southern United States, although it is sometimes included among the member countries of the Mid-Atlantic area. It is one of four U.S. states that use the name of Commonwealth. Actually, you should know in advance that Virginia was the first area of North America which was permanently colonized by England.

If you have really intentions to visit Virginia, you deserve to know some more of its secrets. Firstly, Virginia is known, as a term of endearment, as the “Mother of Presidents”. This happens because eight of the 43 U.S. Presidents were born there. Among them, there are to be mentioned: George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, James Madison, James Monroe, William Henry Harrison, John Tyler, Zachary Taylor and Woodrow Wilson, more than in any of the other 49 states.

Virginia is also known as the name of “Mother of States” as portions of the original colony, called the “Colony and Dominion of Virginia”, has led to the building of other U.S. states. These portions are West Virginia and Kentucky, along with some portions of the states Ohio and Indiana. It is pretty interesting and surprising, isn’t it?

Virginia is a good destination for you, mainly if you are a lover of theaters and venues. There are some suggestions for you: Wolf Trap National Park for the Performing Arts, in Vienna, Harrison Opera House, in Norfolk, Virginia Symphony Orchestra, American Shakespeare Center in Staunton, Barter Theatre in Abingdon and Signature Theatre in Arlington. This state is home for many international artists and it would be another major reason to visit this popular place.

There are some funny facts about Virginia in which you could be interested.
