Nebraska is one of the states belonging to the United States of America, to the region known as Great Plains. The origins of the word “Nebraska” are to be found in language of a North American tribe, Otoe, which means “flat water”. Once considered to be part of the Great American Desert, it is today one of the states with the most advanced agriculture in the world. 


The residents of the state (called as “Nebraskans”) were among those who have practiced scientific farming in order to turn the state into a domestic area, appropriate not only for animal growth but also to plant growth. A large part of the history of the state is the evolution of relationships between local farmers and nature. The natives from Nebraska are sometimes called in a friendly way “Cornhuskers” as a term of endearment.


If you want to visit Nebraska and you have decided to arrive there by train, there are some details that you should be aware of. Firstly, as far as the railways are concerned, Nebraska has a rich history in terms of it. Union Pacific Railroad, headquartered in Omaha, was set up on July 1st, 1862, before signing the “Pacific Railway Act of 1862”. The first transcontinental railway goes within the state. Other major railroads in Nebraska are: Amtrak, BNSF Railway, Dakota, Minnesota and Eastern Railroad and the last, but not the least, Iowa Interstate Railroad.


Also, other things that you should take into account when you visit Nebraska are the very important areas of importance called: Grand Island, Hastings and Kearney, which form the “Tri-Cities” area and the Northeast corner of Nebraska that is part of the region called Siouxland.
